Things to do in Koh Phangan

This may be the smaller sister island of Koh Samui, but there is no shortage of attractions and  things to do in Koh Phangan, a paradise island which retains its authentic charms and idyllic qualities much better than some other island in Thailand. In fact, if you are to get enough well deserved rest by simply lazing on one of several superb beaches while getting a pampering massage, you probably won't have enough time left for all the activities available on the island.

  • Scuba Diving

    The protected gulf of Thailand harboring an abundance of colourful marine life, coral reefs as well as the nearby island of Koh Tao, the premier diving spot in all of South East Asia, makes Koh Phangan a great destination if scuba diving is part of your plans. Many scuba dive centers can be found all over the island and there are plenty of beach-dive sites easily accessible for snorkelers. It is an inexpensive place to learn to dive with PADI open water courses for beginners to instructor level at some of the best rates in the world.
  • Jungle Safaris

    Almost 90% of Koh Phangan is uninhabited mountain and jungle, inviting tourist to explore and experience the inner beauty of the island. Organize a one day or over night trip via most resorts and go elephant trekking through the jungle. On this journey you will see the Chinese Temple, visit the beautiful Phaeng waterfall, stop at the Dome Sila viewpoint and go swim at Than Nam Raak waterfall. Also included is snorkeling at Mae Haad Bay and a visit to another waterfall called Than Sadet. An experience not to be missed.
  • Water Sports

    If you crave an adrenaline rush, or even just want to take a scenic cruise on the back of a water pony around the island, head down to Haad Rin Beach where jet skis are ready for use. For kite surfing and wake-boarding there are a places offering equipment to rent. Koh Phangan is ideal place to learn and to have a great experience. Windsurfing is also becoming more popular with several schools and rental agencies on the island.
  • Fishing

    This trip normally takes place in a long tail boat with a local who will know exactly where to take you. You can organized this with your resort, or if you feel you have the skill to negotiate a good price you can approach them on the beach. You will need to buy you own tackle of you want decent gear available from shops on the island. Big game fishing trips are offered on Koh Samui.
  • Kayaking

    There are few other islands safer and more conducive for kayaking than here. Kayaks are for rent from most beaches and is a wonderful way to explore the surrounding beaches and admire the idyllic beauty around you at your own time and leisure.
  • Boat Trips

    These are easy to organize and cheap. Organize a trip via your resort and see the entire island from a different angle. The trip normally includes Bottle Beach, Than Sadet waterfall, Koh Ma and Koh Tae. Boats also stop at spectacular beaches for swimming, snorkeling and fishing on your request.
  • Mountain Biking & Hiking

    Bikes can be rented in most towns and are generally in good condition. Koh Phangan is predominantly hilly and mountainous, so be prepared for a challenge.
